The sea of clouds is one of the biggest shows we have in the Canary Islands. It is very common that in the lower part of the most mountainous islands the day is cloudy and let’s say “on Teide it’s good for sure”. This is because you literally go through the clouds as you go up to the highest areas of the island. The phenomenon forms naturally between 500 and 1500 meters high creating the illusion of a calm and spongy sea. This is a natural spectacle for everyone who visits

How is the sea of clouds formed?
Thanks to the trade winds typical from our archipelago. These push the clouds against the more mountainous slopes of the north of the island. Depending on where we observe this phenomenon will have an illusion or another.
- From below it will be a cloudy day
- If we go up we can see how the clouds hit the hillside. But the wind does not let them come down to the coast.
- From above it will seem that we are on a white mantle. Which transmits peace and tranquility, and a spectacle that leaves no one indifferent

Where can we see it?
- One of the most beautiful and well known viewpoints is the Mirador de la Tarta del Teide, located up from La Esperanza.
- On the island of La Palma you can see it especially well in El Paso, specifically in the Visitor’s Center of the National Park or from the Roque de los Muchachos.
- El Hierro is a very small but mountainous island, here depending on the conditions we can see the cloud cover from the Pico de Malpaso or the Mirador de Peña
- In La Gomera we found several viewpoints from where to enjoy the wonderful views, the Viewpoint of Los Roques, the one of Abrante.
- From Gran Canaria we can see its views from the Pico de las Nieves.
In short, the Canary Islands offer different possibilities from the sea to the mountains, gastronomy, passing through impressive villages, many of them World Heritage Sites. But, without a doubt, the biodiversity of our archipelago is unparalleled
