We are going on a route! Let’s discover the south of Tenerife in a round plan. In today’s Perfect Day we are going to show you that in the south of the island of Tenerife there are some incredible landscapes, not only of beach, but also of nature. Let’s get started!
Our Perfect Day starts with breakfast in Santiago del Teide and seeing the centre of the town. It is 20 minutes from Adeje and half an hour from Garachico. There we can have breakfast at the Kiosco Villa Historica El Parque where we can try the typical sweets such as the mango, lemon and almond rolls or the honey bows. We can also visit the church or the hotel El Patio before starting our walk.
The Chinyero Volcano circular path
The start of the trail is at km 15 of the TF-38 road. This road goes from Cañadas del Teide to Chio, between Santiago del Teide and Guía de Isora. At this point we find a road closed to traffic where we can leave the car and start our route. It is perfectly signposted with white and yellow lines, and we will also see the sign. Our advice is to drive clockwise.
The landscape is very varied, from the wettest and greenest to the driest. Along the way we will see the Canary Island pine, one of its peculiarities is that, despite the trunk being burnt, it is reborn. On most of our route, we will have the Teide as a backdrop. Along the path we will walk over the badlands and the volcanic lava, seeing the characteristic flora and fauna of the area. The circular route takes three hours at a normal pace.
The Chinyero Volcano:
- Last eruption: 18 November 1909. Lasted only 10 days (one of the shortest on the islands).
- Height: 1561 metres
- It is a monogenic volcano, i.e. it has only one origin.
Lunch and a swim in the sea
Then we can go for lunch at the natural pools of Alcalá and have a swim afterwards. The Sauco restaurant has a large terrace overlooking the sea and is located on a promenade, so if you go with children you won’t have a problem. Along the promenade there are different beaches and natural pools to suit all tastes, from the most adventurous to the quietest beach. There are also different sports fields and playgrounds all along the promenade. The promenade is very beautiful and runs parallel to the coast, ideal for cycling or rollerblading.
To end the Perfect Day
To end the day we can go to Coqueluche Beach Club or Roca Negra, terraces on the beach. They are only 20 minutes by car from where we are. From there we can enjoy a wonderful sunset accompanied by a beer or a mojito. They also have a food menu in both places in case you want to take advantage of it and have dinner there.
Finally back home to rest after a perfect day with your loved ones!
